ORIGINAL ARTICLE: Both the Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro got announced today in China. We’ve covered the announcement of both smartphones, and now we’ll take a closer look at the Xiaomi 12 specifications.
The Xiaomi 12 includes a 6.28-inch fullHD+ 120Hz display
The Xiaomi 12 is the smaller of the two smartphones, and ideal for someone who doesn’t want a huge device. This smartphone features a 6.28-inch fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) AMOLED display. That display offers a 120Hz refresh rate, and supports HDR10+ content, and a max brightness of 1,100 nits. The panel is curved, and it has a centered punch hole. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 fuels the Xiaomi 12, Qualcomm’s most powerful SoC to date. Xiaomi also included 8GB/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 128GB/256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage inside this phone. The 8GB RAM model comes in both storage flavors, while the 12GB RAM model includes 256GB of storage in China. The company also opted to include Harman Kardon speakers inside the Xiaomi 12. There are two speakers here, the main one is bottom-firing, while the secondary is placed above the display, and it’s front-facing.
67W wired, and 50W wireless charging is also a part of the package
A 4,500mAh battery sits inside this smartphone, and it offers fast charging. The phone supports 67W fast wired charging, and 50W fast wireless charging. 10W reverse wireless charging is also offered here. The Xiaomi 12 has three cameras on the back. The main one is a 50-megapixel unit (Sony’s IMX766 sensor, 1.0um pixel size, 2.0um with pixel binning, f/1.88 aperture 24mm lens, OIS, 6P). The second camera is a 13-megapixel wide-angle one (f/2.4 aperture 12mm lens, 123-degree FoV). The camera in the middle of these two is a 5-megapixel macro unit 3-7cm, 50mm lens).
Android 12 comes out of the box
Android 12 comes pre-installed on the Xiaomi 12, along with Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 skin. The phone measures 152.7 x 69.9 x 8.16mm, while it weighs 180 grams (glass model). The vegan leather / PU leather variant is slightly lighter at 179 grams, but you won’t notice the difference. It does support Bluetooth 5.2, and WiFi 6, by the way. The Xiaomi 12 comes in black, blue, purple, and green color variants. The first three combine glass and metal, while the green one has vegan leather (PU leather) on the back. The Xiaomi 12 pricing starts at CNY3,699 ($580) in China. Its price will be different in global markets, of course.
