These channels are available through the Roku Channel, and it is completely free. You just need a Roku device to be able to watch them. And you can watch in your browser if you sign into your Roku account. Roku had about 100 channels available here on the Roku Channel as of July of last year. So it has roughly doubled the number of channels that are available, in just over a year. That is pretty impressive for Roku. Of course, the reason for this is, Roku wants you to stay on its platform longer. And it also sells ads on the Roku Channel. Which is how it is going to make some money. Since you don’t buy new Roku hardware all that often.
What channels are new?
Here are all of the new channels that are coming to the Roku Channel starting today: AccuWeather Now, Baywatch, CBC, El Rey, Estrella Games, FimRise Kids, FilmRise True Crime, Haunt TV, IGN, Mega Noticias, RCN Más, Real Madrid TV, So…Real, The Only Way Is Essex, Tribeca Channel, The Wiggles powered by Loop Media, Inc., and Vivaldi. Roku’s director of AVOD growth, Ashley Hovey stated that “linear streaming exploded over the last year” and added that “demand for free, quality programming continues to be of important to our streamers”. This was especially true during the early days of the pandemic when everyone was stuck at home and needed some content to watch. But didn’t have a job so couldn’t afford to spend more on streaming services. While that might change in the future, everyone definitely loves some free content – that’s why YouTube is so popular.
