The Google Camera Port Updates channel on Telegram gave out the information, stating that the OxygenOS 12 update essentially blocks access to the auxiliary cameras while using Google Camera mods. Auxiliary refers to camera sensors on the device apart from the primary sensor (ultrawide, macro, and so on). This means that owners of the OnePlus 9 Pro can’t use the onboard telephoto or wide-angle sensors if they’re running a Google Camera port or any other third-party camera app. Needless to say, this is quite frustrating for OnePlus 9 owners. But it’s not surprising considering the long list of bugs discovered so far. In fact, OnePlus had to halt the rollout of the new update following negative feedback.
So what’s causing this issue?
OyxgenOS 12 shares its code with OPPO’s ColorOS, which also has this particular restriction on the auxiliary cameras. Simply put, the OxygenOS 12 software is pretty identical to the latest iteration of ColorOS, barring a few adjustments specific to OnePlus devices. Taking these factors into account, it’s likely that the restriction was intentionally put in place by OnePlus. As Android Police suggests, it’s probably safer to hold off on the OxygenOS 12 update if you want to continue using a Google Camera mod. OnePlus could launch a refreshed version of OxygenOS 12 containing a fix for some of the bugs mentioned above. However, it’s unlikely that the auxiliary camera restrictions would disappear with the new software. Some of the other bugs facing OxygenOS 12 include the inability to make or receive phone calls, the disappearance of the phone app, slower Wi-Fi speeds, among others. Some users have gone as far as to call this the worst software update to come from the company. So it’s clear that OnePlus has a lot of work to do. The sheer number of bugs is surprising given that OnePlus went through an elaborate beta program for the new software. The company hasn’t said when it would restart the OxygenOS 12 update for its devices.
