According to the new report, the four higher-clocked performance cores on the Dimensity 9200 are 64-bit exclusive. That means the single Cortex-X3 super core that operates at up to 3.05GHz and the three Cortex-A715 CPU cores clocked at 2.85GHz don’t support 32-bit operations. But should there ever be the need to handle a 32-bit task, the chipset’s four Cortex-A510 power-efficient cores will take care of that. The base CPU cores on the Dimensity 9200 are clocked at 1.8GHz. MediaTek doesn’t clearly mention this on the Dimensity 9200’s product page on its official website. The CPU bit section still reads “64-bit Exclusive”. Buried in the web page is a brief explanation that the chipset “provides the first 64-bit exclusive Armv9 Performance Cores for smartphones”. But not many people would read that over the highlights of the spec. And the latter hinted the Dimensity 9200 is a 64-bit only SoC. Not to be, of course. Either way, it doesn’t matter much for end users. Since Google has mandated 64-bit support for Android developers, all newer apps would have still worked on Dimensity 9200-powered smartphones if the chipset lacked 32-bit support. A few old apps that have been abandoned and haven’t received updates wouldn’t work but it’s not safe to use those apps anyway. Perhaps that’s why Google ditched 32-bit support on its latest smartphones. The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are 64-bit only. Their Tensor processor does support 32-bit operations but the software itself doesn’t.

The Dimensity 9200 will power flagship Android smartphones coming out later this year and in the first half of 2023. Vivo’s X90 series could be the first to get it. The device recently appeared on a benchmark listing featuring the new MediaTek processor. Meanwhile, Qualcomm is preparing to launch its Dimensity 9200 rival soon. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could arrive later today at the company’s Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii. The event begins at 3:00 PM CT/6:00 PM GMT on November 15. We have already had plenty of leaks and rumors about Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship chipset. But it’s not a very long wait now before things go official.
