Wear OS integration on Google TV devices may seem like a slightly far-flung feature. But it shouldn’t really. Samsung already offers the ability to connect your Galaxy Watch 4 to a compatible Samsung TV for a range of different uses. Including getting a complete view of your fitness stats on a much larger display. You can even interact with workouts shown on the big screen while the watch takes care of the tracking. The idea here is being able to focus more readily on the workout and less on the screen you’re wearing around your wrist. And now it seems Google wants to make that more accessible to people.
Wear OS integration with Google TV will enable interactive video workouts
This is the most obvious route for Google to take with this kind of integration. Even though the company could certainly work in more functionality, and is seemingly planning to, interactive video workouts are a no-brainer. Protocol states that this is one of the bigger features Google is working on. On the list of things you’ll be able to do is checking your heart rate. In addition, you’ll be able to check your caloric burn. As well as look at other real-time data from Fitbit and Wear OS devices. While this does seem to be coming, it’s apparently not very close. 2023 is said to be the very earliest Google could roll this feature out to TVs running on the Google TV platform. Google is also said to be working on making Google TV and Android TV more compatible with various smart home functions.
Using Nest speakers as wireless speakers for Google TV
Beyond Google’s Wear OS ambitions, it’s also reportedly seeking further advancements for its Google TV and Android TV platforms. Among the handful of ideas, Google is said to be working on making your Nest speakers usable as wireless speakers. You’d need a Google TV and Android TV, of course. But Google doesn’t seem to be stopping there. The report mentions that Google is working to bring this feature to third-party audio. Meaning it wouldn’t have to be the Nest brand.
