According to Google, this feature works entirely on-device to preserve privacy. As you’re typing out a sentence, Gboard will highlight any grammatical errors with a blue underline. Tapping on the highlighted part will show the grammatically correct phrase or word in place of the contextual word suggestions. You can tap on it to quickly correct your sentence. Of course, you can ignore those blue underlines if you don’t want your sentence to be grammatically correct. Conversations with friends and family are often done using acronyms or shorter sentences without proper grammar. But if you’re writing a work email on your phone, this feature in Gboard could save you from embarrassing situations. Note that while the feature works in almost all apps with Gboard, it can only detect English grammatical errors. Google plans to add support for more languages “in the near future,” but four months have passed since it said that. Automatic grammar correction in Gboard is an optional feature though. So should you not bother about grammatical errors ever, you can turn it off from Gboard settings, under the ‘Corrections’ section.
Google brings Gboard’s grammar correction to more Pixel phones
Though grammar correction in Gboard has been a Pixel 6 series-exclusive since launch, it worked on other Pixel devices with some modification of the build.prop file in Android via root access. Google is now officially rolling out the support. However, the company hasn’t yet announced the rollout of this feature on its older Pixel phones. But if you’re using one, you can check for it yourself. And if the feature is not yet available to you, you might want to update the Gboard app. You can click the button below to download the latest version from the Google Play Store.
