In a job listing, Google stated that ‘Android Tablets’ are the ‘future of computing’
9to5Google notes that Google seems to have formed the “Android Tablets” initiative last year. In any case, the job listing says: “We believe that the future of computing is shifting towards more powerful and capable tablets”. Google also added that it tries to launch seamless support across its platforms and “hero experiences” that will make people “productive and creative”. That’s a rather interesting pitch to potential employees, that’s for sure. The source notes that there are several other job listings that hint at Google’s “Android Tablets” initiative. On top of that, Android co-founder, Rich Miner, joined the operating system division, as spotted by JR Raphael at Computerworld.
Android 12L will likely play a huge part in Google’s plans
Just to be clear, Rich Miner joined Android Tablets back in March last year. So this project has been going on for quite some time now. Considering we’re talking about tablets here, it’s worth noting that Android 12L will play a huge part in everything, almost certainly. Android 12L, as most of you probably already know, is aiming to improve the Android experience on large screen devices: Those are, of course, both tablets and foldable smartphones. Android 12L is expected to arrive in the near future, so it will be interesting to see what will we get exactly. Bits and pieces already surfaced, but nothing beats the final product. Needless to say, the Android experience on tablets hasn’t been the best. The same goes for foldable smartphones, when you’re using the main display. Some apps adapt really well to such displays, but not many of them. Google is obviously aiming to change that, and let’s hope a lot of developers will board that train. Apple’s iPads definitely need some competition, and foldable devices seem to have pushed Google to do more in that regard. Let’s hope developers will follow suit.
