The app allows page admins to customize group backgrounds, fonts, colors, and emojis to make them appealing to their userbase. Further, admins can display an intro page to welcome newly joined members to their page/group. Engagement in groups is also improving with the help of a new floating “posting button,” the company said in a blog post (via). This posting button allows members to post content practically anywhere inside the group, saving them the trouble of scrolling all the way to the top. To ensure the most important information is available first, admins can now pin messages on the new “Featured” section at the top of groups.

The Facebook app will bring additional monetization options for group admins/moderators

The Facebook app will also allow group members to send badges to each other to acknowledge their contributions. Groups are also getting real-time community chats along with the ability to schedule recurring in-person or virtual meetings. Diving deeper into groups, the company is testing a feature wherein admins can create subgroups. These subgroups can either be free or paid, thus offering another viable method of monetization. A large part of the focus for the company is to improve monetization options for admins. Keeping this in mind, Facebook is also bringing a shop where admins can sell their products. Moreover, admins and moderators can raise money for group fundraisers. Facebook is also allowing admins/moderators to combine pages and groups. This feature makes life easier for admins who manage multiple pages or groups. The company is updating Admin Assist with new criteria and info on why it may reject some content. Additionally, Admin Assist will be available across all platforms, including Facebook Lite. The announcements are part of the Facebook Communities Summit. Meta said these features would roll out “soon,” while a few of them are currently under testing. This is part of Meta’s plans to position itself as the leader in virtual community/groups experience. While this segment was mostly uncontested for a while, rivals are now coming up with their take on Facebook Groups. Twitter launched Communities a couple of months ago to rival Groups. However, its implementation is limited since Communities is an invite-only service at the moment.
